Ever Growing Patience

You know its great to get away.  You get a chance to unplug and recharge your battery.  The hardest thing can be the piles of work or tasks you have on your desk when you return.  My favorite is when you log in to tackle some of these tasks only to find your internet is still on vacation.

Once I finally got the internet to work the first VIDEO I see is of a gentleman earning his “Wings” as a commercial pilot.  This brings everything into perspective.  In this day and age of “fast everything”, we have to remember to be patient.. ten and a half years he said!

It doesn’t happen fast.  It might take more time than you think.  Most of all… it will challenge you in more ways than one.

We are all about setting goals and… CRUSHING THEM!  Speaking of, click HERE to watch this awesome video we put together to give you a small taste of how we do this at Martial Way Legacy.

A Simple Way To Battle Your Thoughts

action-balls-black-and-white-60582

http://www.martialway.net

This weekend was definitely tough.  Just after our Free Saturday Kickboxing MMA Class we received the call, my Uncle Bobby had passed away.  He was at home surrounded by his wife, family and animals which is the way he would have wanted it.

Getting the news was difficult, especially just before we were going to start our MARS Curriculum Workshop.  But, my Uncle had an amazing life.  He was a hard worker and an wonderful human being.  He respected hard work and loved his family.  So, I did what I love to do in his memory.  Share and teach some great knowledge with my martial arts family.  It was a long 10am-7pm kind of a day… and totally worth it.

This brings me to something I see as a method to help us all in life.  We can always look for an easy way out of things.  But that wasn’t how my Uncle Bobby lived.  He didn’t make excuses and he sure didn’t listen to them either.  This re-enforces the only way I know how to combat these moments and thoughts.  One simple and easy step… get busy!!!

This is probably why I keep my plate full with so many goals, projects and tasks.  You see things happen when you get moving!!  This reminds me of my favorite saying.

“Motion Leads to Emotion”

In moments where thoughts can really weigh you down, try getting busy!  Get up and just literally just start doing something.  You will notice a huge change in the way you feel and what you can accomplish.

Now enough reading… time to get busy 🙂

A Tough Time

MARTIAL WAY LEGACY

This week has been really tough for me.

I am snowed under with work for the MARS Southwest Camp.  My list also isn’t getting any shorter on things to finish building, creating and adjusting at our academy.

I have felt lethargic and slightly unfocused.  My back hurts in two different locations.  My elbow is swollen.  My right hand is tingly numb from a pinched nerve.  My right food hurts and the sun isn’t out.

I am torn on the argument dealing with our country’s issues on gun control, mental health, lack of parenting, education and more importantly helping our youth express themselves.

On top of that… my uncle, the patriarch of the family and the last person close to my dad is not doing too well.  When we lose him, I feel like I will loose that last connection to my dad.  They will all be gone.

You see it is easy to make excuses on why not to work towards our goals.  The real challenge is finding reasons why we should make ourselves smarter, stronger, faster and healthier.

My motivation this morning was simple.  I have my health.  I can adjust my training to what I can do.  I can start slow and build up.  Even if I don’t hit it 100%… I am still hitting IT!

We all have crap going on.  We all have bad days.  That being said… we all need to grab that gleam of light, cause or even purpose and push forward.  Not every day is roses  and even when it is, they could… still have thorns.  Count your blessings and punch procrastination, weakness, and fear in the face.

I hope your day has been awesome and that you go for it.  What ever it is… reach out and get it!!!

Getting More Done

accuracy-alarm-clock-analogue-552598

http://www.martialway.net

Anyone that knows me, knows that my calendar is completely stacked!  That being said, I have been playing around since November with something known as the Bullet Journal.  This has been a great addition to my task management and calendar.  More importantly it has given me an analog system that I can customize day to day.

I have been enjoying this format and have updated my methods of implementation week by week and month by month.  This has been awesome because it has helped me monitor (remember Numbers Don’t Lie!!!) my progress on a concept I call “Splintering”.  This concept really has changed my thought process on task management and even working out.  Honestly, I am getting more done than I ever have before and I am  training way more than I used.  More importantly… I am achieving new levels in all things and crushing each goal I set for myself!

Now there’s no magical way of snapping your fingers to make this happen.  You still have to put in the work; but I am here to tell you, this is the best method I have tried yet.

The basic concept is that you alternate things on your task list for a duration of time no longer than 25 minutes.  During this time I focus on one specific task.  Lets stay it is opening up Martial Way Legacy for classes that day.  This might include our announcement board, etc.  Once I complete one of those tasks I hit a workout regimen.  These are already pre-planned so it is easy and I don’t have to think about talking myself out of it.  Maybe it’s rounds hitting the bag, stretching, One More Mindset, Push Up Challenge, etc.  After I finish that workout, I move to a next task and so on.  I continue this format for a set duration of time.  So I am hitting 6-8 different types of workouts while at the same time knocking out 6-8 different tasks far faster than ever before.

You know how it goes.  You start training and you never get any work accomplished, or you start working and you never get to train.  I really do feel that this method helps balance all of these things out.

Give it a try and if you need more help on how to set it up please feel free to reach out to me.  I love this new method and I think it could help you reach your goals faster and stronger.

Numbers Don’t Lie

accounting-analytics-balance-209224
So here is the question you have to ask yourself…
How has the plan towards my goals been working for me?
What I mean by this is you have to run the reports on how your progress is going.  My favorite saying is, “Numbers Don’t Lie”.  If you are doing things as planned then you should be moving along really well.  If not, then maybe your plan needs an adjustment. Run this audit every week and even every month. Check your numbers and see where you are at.
Are you more flexible?
Are you stronger?
Are you faster?
These are all things just like inches and pounds that can be measured.  So measure your progress and see how you are gaining ground on your goals.
Cya sweatin to Black Belt Health and Beyond!

Getting Back To Normal

accomplishment-action-adventure-461593

http://www.martialway.net

After the holidays, it really does feel great to get back to some sort of “normalcy”.  I use this “word” carefully though because Normality (or Normalcy) is the condition of being normal; the state of being usual, typical or expected.

This is some thin ice to walk on.  If your normal, everyday routine doesn’t have you pushing for new levels… well then there could be a problem.  The point is complacency kills us.  How so?

Well complacency is a feeling of satisfaction with one’s achievements.  It is making your way to a goal or accomplishment and just sitting back coasting after wards.  This doesn’t make you any better.  In fact, the more time between when you attain a goal and when you start working towards a new one can really destroy your momentum.

So what are we looking for then?  I am looking to be content, not complacent.  Contentment is a state of happiness and satisfaction.  I want to be happy.  Do you? Your answer should be “YES!!!” of course.

So how do we progress and also be happy?

Your new goal is to find a way to make forward advancement your point of contention.  This will not happen over night.  There are going to be days you don’t want to do it; but… you MUST!

So find a way to get uncomfortable.  Find a way to challenge yourself.  Embrace the grind and get busy pushing yourself to be stronger, faster, smarter and healthier.

Let us know what we can do to help!

Bad Case of the Mondays

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

http://www.martialway.net

I will tell you that Mondays are stacked for me.  There is a lot of prep work to get the first classes of the week started strong.  If I don’t finalize the plan a few days before… well the day is just gone!

That is how I felt today. Basically, I didn’t finalize my task list / calendar set up before the alarm clock went off.  You know what that feels like?  It is like you are standing at the starting line of a race.  The gun has gone off and everyone (the day) has left you behind.  The rest of your day you feel like you are playing catch up.  This causes you to spend most of your time responding to things.

Our momentum slows down drastically anytime we are not taking action towards our goals.  I know what I will be doing tonight before I call it a day.

I hope your day is going well and you are taking action and killing it!

Timing Is The Key

images-1

http://www.martialway.net

Man, yesterday I felt it.  Whether I was ready or not; IT was coming.  The first day of the month is always a busy time for us. Combine that with the 1st day back after a long holiday and the New Year… ugh!

As I reflected on this last night, I was reminded of a powerful concept that someone coached me on.

“Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan”

You know when to take your lunch.  You know when to pick up the kids from school and you even know when dinner is with your friends.  These dates and times are scheduled on your calendar to help you know “when” to do something.

I give you this because it is “Resolution Time”.  You probably have some goals you want to achieve and you even have a plan to make it happen. But often enough, “what” you do, isn’t nearly as important as “when” you do it.  Just like martial arts and life itself… Timing Is The Key.

Try this with everything and watch yourself accomplish more day to day towards your goals.  This is guaranteed to give you a Happy New Year!

Did Santa Bring It To You?

url

http://www.martialway.net

So did you get it?  I mean… did he bring it to you??  You are probably thinking, “Did who… bring me what?”

Did Santa Claus bring you all your Goals you wanted to achieve?

I mean… just asking alone should have meant that you got it right?

I REALLY believe that I was a good boy this past year.  I thought for sure he was going to set me up with everything I wanted… but I guess not.

You see Santa isn’t going to magically bring you everything you asked for.  He’s not going to do the steps it takes to achieve your goals.  It is up to you and you alone to go for it.

So lets do just that.  This time of the year is when I always go into full planning mode.  I have each month’s full calendar printed on individual pieces of paper.  I go through and write all the important dates for our family first.  Then I start to look at Testing and Graduation Dates for our school.  Then special events, holidays, vacations, etc.

After this, I make a long list of goals and projects I would like to accomplish in the next year.  I set a target date and break down each step to finish the entire project.  Once this is done all the steps get written on the calendar.

This creates a great step by step process that maps out the entire journey.

If you can take the small amount of time to do this, I promise… you will be 80% to your destination.  This is all it takes.  Literally an hour of your time to plot out each step.

Do you think generals in the military go into battle without a plan?  Do you think successful CEOs of major companies go in without a plan?

Absolutely NOT!

So take a few moments this week, before the last holiday of the year.  Organize your thoughts, write your goals down and plan your year!!!

Blank Canvas Challenge

blank-canvas-on-the-floor-leaning-against-a-wall_1048-1367

http://www.martialway.net

I was reviewing some notes this week on goal setting and I realized something.

This time of the year is extremely important!!!

It is a great time to do a self-evaluation for the last 12 months.  You can ask yourself three simple questions.

#1 – What have I accomplished?

#2 – What am I in line to achieve?

#3 – What have I not finished?

As you weigh these out, you want to remember who you wanted to be this year.  Then compare that to who and where you are right now.  This should paint a solid picture and help you create your goals for the next year.

Following this process should eliminate the “Blank Canvas Challenge” and get you moving smoother through your planning phase.

What’s on your list?  Not your Christmas List; but your Goal List?
